Introduction
The Version Control page provides tools for updating the Administrative Site's Search index, managing the version of the Administrative Site, and managing the version of the Public Site:
Page Contents
The Version Control page is broken into four sections:
| Search
| Updates the Search index for the Administrative Site. Use it when you've made changes to the content of the Administrative Site and want the Search engine to reflect those changes. (When you publish your site, a new index will be created automatically if needed.)
|
| Snapshot
| The Snapshot tools allow you to control the version of the Administrative Site. You can:
- Make a Snapshot of the current Administrative content. The Snapshot is marked with the current time stamp. Snapshots are saved for 34 days. A minimum of four previous copies are saved. If the content hasn't changed since the most recent Snapshot, the "Snapshot" button will not be available. The Snapshot also preserves the Local Dictionary.
- Copy a previous Snapshot to the current Administrative Site, overwriting the current contents of the Administrative Site. Select the version of the Snapshot from the select list and press the "Copy" button. If the most recent Snapshot is not up-to-date, then the "Copy" button will not be available. Snapshot Copy also restores the previous Local Dictionary.
- Copy the Public Site or a previous version of the Public Site to the Administrative Site, overwriting the current contents of the Administrative Site. Select the version of the Public Site from the select list and press the "Copy" button. If the most recent Snapshot is not up-to-date, then the "Copy" button will not be available. Copying from the Public Site does not replace the Local Dictionary.
This tool is provided for convenience, but in practice is rarely used.

| Published Version
| Switch the version of the Public Site. When you publish your site, the contents are copied into a time-stamped directory. Previously published versions are saved for 34 days. A minimum of four previous copies are saved. A list of these previously published versions is provided in the select list. Select the version of the Public Site from the select list and press the "Copy" button. This tool switches versions in seconds without doing a time-consuming copy.
Because this tool is only used in an emergency, when you need to return to a previous version, and because all previous versions were approved by the holder of the Publishing Password, this tool does not require the Publishing Password to be entered.
|
| Differences
| Presents a two-column list of the differences between the contents of the Public site and the Administrative site. Files are flagged as "different" or "unique" to one of the two sites. Click on the names to see the respective pages.
|
| Title Tables
| Rebuilds the Title Tables. The Content Management System maintains internal tables of page Titles and Short Titles, along with the links associated with the titles. This command rebuilds the tables from scratch. Normally it is not necessary to run this command. However, if the Content Management System ever reports missing titles when none are missing, running this command corrects the tables.
